Laparoscopic Gall Bladder Removal

The patient is put under general anaesthesia and connected to a mechanical ventilator for assistance in breathing.  For the procedure, the surgeon makes four small incisions through which a tube with a small, lighted camera is guided into your abdomen. The abdomen is inflated with gas so your surgeon has space to work. They remove your gallbladder through the incisions. After removal of the gallbladder, the surgeon uses a special X-Ray to check for any damage in bile duct structures, like a bile stone, that may need to be removed. The surgeon then closes the incision sites with sutures and bandages it.

The patient slowly weans the anaesthesia. The patient can resume normal activities in a week in most cases. Proper care should be taken to ensure that the incision site remains dry and sterile. The symptoms related to eating after the gallbladder removal surgery are mild and rare but may experience some diarrhoea. This can however be controlled with diet modifications and a healthy lifestyle.
