Profile (Overview)

  • Bhaskar Viswanathan is presently working as a Professor & Head of the Radiation Oncology department at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research centre (Faridabad, Haryana He initially did his schooling at Frank Anthony Public School and college at National college in Bengaluru. Later his MD training was at Kidwai memorial institute of Oncology in 1997. He did a one-year Clinical research project at Tata memorial Hospital in Mumbai in 1998. Subsequently joined Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in 1999 as Assistant professor and remained in service till 2006(8 years). During this in addition to clinical work, he did short academic courses in Genetic engineering, Human molecular Genetics at Indian institute of science and research lab training at IVRI Bengaluru. Later enrolled for 1-year Clinical Fellowship program at Jurivinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton, Canada. After this, in 2008, he was employed at Vydehi institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bengaluru as Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology till 2012 and subsequently promoted to Professor and worked till 2022(14 years). He also had an orientation program on Hyperthermia techniques in Breast and Cervical cancers at Erasmus MC Netherlands in 2017.
  • In the interim, he had the privilege of inventing the Robotic image guided brachytherapy to treat Hepatic tumours for which phase 1 trials are due. He has also worked in setting up of Nanoparticle research lab (60 Lakh funded project) in his own personal capacity and was involved in formulating Iron oxide(30nm) and Gadolinium nanoparticles for their induction hyperthermia potential in the treatment of cancers.
  • He has also been part of PRSG committee of Dept of IT, BT and electronics (DEITY) Govt of India as cancer expert to oversee research audit in Cancer nanotechnology research at IIT, Mumbai.

  • From 2008 to 2012, he worked as an associate professor in radiation oncology at the Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Bengaluru. While working there, in 2017, he attended an orientation program at Erasmus MC Netherlands on hyperthermia techniques in breast and cervical cancers. Eventually, he was promoted to the post of professor. He worked there till 2022.
